FAQs
What can I expect in my first counselling session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about your concerns, your goals for therapy, and any important background information. It’s also a time for you to ask me questions and see if we are a good fit. There’s no pressure, so we’ll always go at your pace.
How long is a counselling session?
Most sessions are 50-60 minutes long. Longer sessions can be arranged in advance if needed and the price will depend on the length requested.
There is also an option to select Single Session Counselling
What is Single Session Therapy/Counselling?
Single Session Therapy/Counselling is a one-time, focused session (90-120 minutes) designed to help you address a specific concern or decision. It is based on Solution Focused Brief Therapy, a therapeutic approach that emphasizes goal-oriented solutions. These sessions are ideal if you need quick support, clarity, or strategies without ongoing appointments. You can always return for another single session or sporadic individual sessions in the future if you choose.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals and the nature of your concerns. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from ongoing therapy. We can review your progress regularly to decide what works best for you.
Do you offer online and some in-person sessions?
No. I only offer secure online sessions via a privacy-compliant video platform (JANE App and ZOOM). I do Not offer any in-person sessions.
Do I need a referral to see you?
No referral is needed—you can book directly.
Do you accept insurance?
Many insurance plans cover counselling services. I provide detailed receipts you can submit to your insurer. It’s best to check with your provider to confirm that you are covered to see social work counsellors.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
I require 24-hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be subject to a fee.
What kinds of concerns do you help with?
I offer identity-affirming, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental care for anxiety, stress, trauma, relationships (monogamous & non-monogamous), shame, anger, racial and immigration stress, and life transitions. Perinatal mental health services and supervision and consultation for mental health practitioners will be launching in February. If you’re unsure whether your concern fits, feel free to reach out.
What demographics do you work with?
I work with adults and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds, including:
· LGBTQIA+ communities
· BIPOC communities
· Kink communities
· Immigrants, newcomers, and culturally diverse backgrounds
· Perinatal mental health (covers mental well-being during pregnancy, postpartum, and up to 2 years after childbirth, including common conditions like postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety).
If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out.
How do I book a session?
You can book online, send an email, or text the office number. I’ll confirm your appointment and send you any necessary intake forms before your first session.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. What you share stays private, with a few legal exceptions—such as if you are at risk of harming yourself or others, or if there is a concern about abuse of a child or vulnerable person.
