Welcome to Smerauralis Counselling & Consulting. We’re honoured you’ve chosen to begin this journey with us.

Our goal is to create a world where individuals, partners, and communities can uncover hidden truths, embrace their wholeness, and flourish with clarity, confidence, and compassion. We envision counselling and consulting spaces that illuminate paths forward, honour cultural identities, and nurture growth grounded in wisdom, care, and gentle strength.

At Smerauralis Counselling & Consulting Services, we believe that every hidden truth deserves light. Our practice celebrates the beauty in what is hidden and the courage it takes to reveal it. We honour the unseen aspects of your journey, illuminating them with grace, light, and timeless radiance.
Smerauralis:
  • Derived from a combination of two words that together mean: “Bringing hidden truths into radiant light.”
Smerauralis symbolizes:
  • Truth revealed in grace and light, an unseen beauty made visible, the unheard made audible, and the undiscovered made outstanding.
We ONLY offer VIRTUAL Services.

We support individuals navigating concerns such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, stress, burnout, and work–life balance, as well as life transitions and identity shifts.

We support high-achieving adults who look like they have it all together but feel mentally drained and stuck. When typical coping strategies aren’t working, we offer focused, short-term counselling to help you untangle the overwhelm, think clearly, brainstorm, and move forward with confidence and clarity.

We also provide perinatal mental health counselling to individuals experiencing stress during pregnancy, postpartum. This service is open to all parents — not just mothers. We welcome fathers, non-birthing parents, adoptive parents, intended parents, surrogates, and individuals in diverse caregiving roles. Parenthood takes many forms, and each experience deserves recognition and support. No matter how you came into your parenting journey, your mental health matters.

Additional areas of focus include shame and internalized stigma, anger, racial and cultural trauma, and the complex intersections of identity, culture, and lived experience.

Direct Billing is NOT available at this time. Please crosscheck with your insurance that social workers are covered. E-transfer, visa, and credit cards accepted.

We are licensed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia.
We are an NIHB and Victims Services approved provider.

FAQs

What can I expect in my first counselling session?

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about your concerns, your goals for therapy, and any important background information. It’s also a time for you to ask me questions and see if we are a good fit. There’s no pressure, so we’ll always go at your pace.

How long is a counselling session?

Most sessions are 50-60 minutes long. Longer sessions can be arranged in advance if needed and the price will depend on the length requested.

There is also an option to select Single Session Counselling

What is Single Session Therapy/Counselling?

Single Session Therapy/Counselling is a one-time, focused session (90-120 minutes) designed to help you address a specific concern or decision. It is based on Solution Focused Brief Therapy, a therapeutic approach that emphasizes goal-oriented solutions. These sessions are ideal if you need quick support, clarity, or strategies without ongoing appointments. You can always return for another single session or sporadic individual sessions in the future if you choose.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and the nature of your concerns. Some clients find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from ongoing therapy. We can review your progress regularly to decide what works best for you.

Do you offer online and some in-person sessions?

No. I only offer secure online sessions via a privacy-compliant video platform (JANE App and ZOOM). I do Not offer any in-person sessions.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No referral is needed—you can book directly.

Do you accept insurance?

Many insurance plans cover counselling services. I provide detailed receipts you can submit to your insurer. It’s best to check with your provider to confirm that you are covered to see social work counsellors.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

I require 24-hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations will be subject to a fee.

What kinds of concerns do you help with?

I offer identity-affirming, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental care for anxiety, stress, trauma, relationships (monogamous & non-monogamous), shame, anger, racial and immigration stress, and life transitions. If you’re unsure whether your concern fits, feel free to reach out.

What demographics do you work with?

I work with adults only and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds. If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out.

How do I book a session?

Send us an email: counselling@smerauralis.ca or use the booking page. I’ll confirm your appointment and send you any necessary intake forms before your first session.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. What you share stays private, with a few legal exceptions—such as if you are at risk of harming yourself or others, or if there is a concern about abuse of a child or vulnerable person.
